5AM getting in or getting up ?

There was a time in my life when 5 am marked the end of a night spent out on the town.

I wouldn’t trade those experiences for anything; they were filled with excitement and joy. However, they also taught me a valuable lesson about how I don’t want to feel the next morning.

At 5 am, as Zig Ziglar famously put it, my opportunity clock chimes loudly. Of course, there are days when I find myself longing to hit the snooze button, but I’ve come to appreciate the perks of waking up early. By 8 am, I’m buzzing with energy and ready to tackle the day, radiating an annoyingly cheerful demeanour that can sometimes irritate my kids and those around me. But they’ll learn to live with it—after all, I didn’t understand it at 13 or 14 either, so I can empathise with their exasperation.

The benefits of rising early and incorporating exercise into my morning routine are well-documented. I also carve out time to unwind and meditate, sharing my prayers as a Christian. It’s a wonderful chance to connect with the main man without any interruptions—no emails, no texts, and even the dog is sound asleep. It’s a sacred time for me, perhaps a little selfish, but I truly value it.

This morning routine suits me perfectly, and I encourage others to give it a try. If you can share it with good friends, even better! We’ve had some enlightening conversations this week , discussing topics like narcissism, what I would change about being 16, the impact of AI on our future, and a light-hearted debate about supporting local football teams if we lived in certain cities:

– Nottingham: Forest or County
– North London: Spurs or Arsenal
– Manchester: City or United
– Liverpool: Everton or Liverpool
– Glasgow: Celtic or Rangers
– Birmingham: Villa, Birmingham, or WBA

My picks? Forest, Spurs, City, Everton, Celtic, and Villa.

So, set your opportunity clock for tomorrow—what time will it ring for you?
